How to get an Washington State motorcycle endorsement
Motorcycles
There are two ways to get a Washington State motorcycle endorsement:
(1) If you don’t take an approved Washingon state motorcycle rider course, you must:
(A) pass the Washington motorcycle written test, which allows you to get an Washington motorcycle instruction permit.
AND
(B) pass the Washington motorcycle riding test.
(2) If you complete and pass an approved Washington motorcycle rider course at a Washington motorcycle training school, bring your completion card to any Washington driver licensing office within 180 days to have the knowledge and riding tests waived.
Sidecars and trikes
If you ride a trike or a motorcycle with a sidecar, you must get a special Washington motorcycle endorsement. There are two ways to get a sidecar/trike endorsement:
(1) If you don’t take an approved Washington motorcycle rider course, you must:
(A) pass the Washington sidecar/trike written test to get an Washington sidecar/trike instruction permit. (This test is different than the test for 2-wheel motorcycles.)
AND
(B) pass the Washington sidecar/trike riding test.
(2) If you complete and pass an approved Washington rider course at a sidecar/trike training school, bring your completion card to any driver licensing office within 180 days to have the knowledge and riding tests waived.
Riders under 18
If you are under 18 years of age, you MUST satisfactorily complete an approved Washington motorcycle rider course before you can apply for a Washington State motorcycle endorsement. You must have parental permission to take the course, and to apply for the Washington State endorsement.
